Every day brings a choice: focus on the problem or focus on the opportunity. For Hayson Tasher Sr., the answer is simple. His message, “Tell Me the Good News,” is more than a headline; it is a mindset that encourages people to look beyond obstacles and take action. Throughout his career in Security, Hayson has learned that growth comes from recognising opportunities, investing in yourself, and staying committed to moving forward.
Whether leading daily operations, working field security details, or building the OLDPGS brand, his philosophy remains consistent: progress begins when people choose action over hesitation. Rather than dwelling on circumstances, he believes individuals should seek opportunities that can create a better future.
Self-Investment That Sparked the Old Patrolman Brand
The journey behind OLDPGS began with one important decision: investing in himself.
While employed by other security firms, Hayson carefully documented every license and certification he earned. Looking at the qualifications he had achieved through self-investment, he realised it was time to create the “Old Patrolman Brand.” Those years working for different security companies also provided valuable insight into the industry. He observed organisations that operated effectively and others that did not, taking lessons from both the good and the bad.
Today, OLDPGS provides armed and unarmed uniformed security guards, loss prevention and investigation services, SB1626 school security services, free consulting, and additional security-related services. Guided by the company mottos, “Dedicated to a Safe and Secure Environment” and “Security You Can Count On,” the organisation continues to focus on dependable service and professional standards.
Hayson’s commitment has earned significant recognition along the way. He is a 2022 and 2023 Business Hall of Fame Award Recipient from the City of Pasadena. OLDPGS has also handled several event security assignments, including security details involving rapper and singer Vince Staples at the Fonda Theatre and the rock band N.E.R.D at the Long Beach Convention Centre.
Turning Missed Opportunities into Meaningful Change
The phrase “Tell Me the Good News” also reflects Hayson’s perspective on opportunity and personal responsibility.
During security assignments, he has frequently advised homeless individuals about trespass laws after they attempted to set up camps on private property, particularly during California’s hot summer months when shaded areas become attractive places to stay. He notes that while shelters exist, some individuals choose not to follow shelter rules or curfews and instead remain on the streets.
For Hayson, these experiences highlight what he considers a missed opportunity. Rather than remaining in situations without taking steps toward change, he believes people should actively pursue opportunities that can improve their lives.
His message is straightforward: remaining trapped in an unfavourable situation without taking action only allows opportunities to pass by. Instead, he encourages people to “get up, get out, and do something.” That belief has become one of the defining principles behind both his career and the message he hopes to share with others.
When asked how he hopes to inspire people, his answer is simple: opportunity. He believes opportunity exists for those willing to take the first step toward something better.
Leading from the Front While Looking to the Future
One of the qualities that sets Hayson apart is his continued involvement in every level of the business. Rather than limiting himself to Management, he remains active in daily operations and field security details alongside OLDPGS affiliates.
By staying involved in the work itself, he continues to understand the realities of the industry while supporting the people who represent the company each day. This hands-on approach reflects the values on which the Old Patrolman Brand was built.
Looking ahead, Hayson’s vision includes expanding the brand through retail locations offering Old Patrolman products such as batons, firearms, security technology, and additional equipment. His plans also include establishing security training centres and creating an OLDPGS sister company dedicated exclusively to event security.
Beyond business, Hayson believes opportunity begins at a young age. He encourages young people to develop a strong work ethic early by looking for ways to earn income, such as offering to mow neighbours’ lawns after already learning those responsibilities at home.
For Hayson Tasher Sr., success is not defined by waiting for better circumstances. It comes from recognizing opportunity, investing in yourself, and continuing to move forward. Through OLDPGS, his message remains clear: choose action, embrace opportunity, and never stop looking for the good news.
